Welcome to Studio Avery

In 2012, OV made the decision to move closer to downtown Pittsburgh while focusing on finding a larger and more functional video production space. Later that year, the build out of Studio Avery and Orionvega’s post-production suites began.

Studio Avery is a 756 square-foot sound treated production studio. Orionvega offices and post-production suites surround the central studio space. The location sits just beyond the congested city center, on the North Side of Pittsburgh, and close to all the major thoroughfares in the area.

Little Capital Investment, a lot of Hard Work

OV setup shop with very little capital investment from the partners, so their strategy was to keep overhead low and slowly build the business with profits. Utilizing digital advances and internet technology as often as possible, allowed the group to keep operating costs to a minimum while maximizing revenues.

By 2011, Orionvega had completely upgraded its editing suite to a faster and more-efficient system, purchased two new high-definition cameras, and procured additional lighting and grip equipment essential for their video productions.

OV said goodbye to Chris Lewis, in-house Director of Photography and Partner, when he accepted a position in Hollywood, California.

Expanding Project Repertoire

By 2010, the OV team was producing commercial work for just under 200 local and regional clients. They secured their first office space in the West End section of Pittsburgh, and began bolstering their reach by offering studio space for client projects, which was ideal for on-camera interviews and head to shoulder green screen work.

While building on new referrals, OV expanded their project repertoire by creating corporate long-form and web videos for their commercial clients.

Later that year, Orionvega welcomed Chris Delp to the team as Editor & Motion Graphics Artist, when OV’s Editor and Partner, Jay Hogben, relocated to Washington, DC.

Humble Beginnings

Orionvega formed just as the Great Recession took its swift downturn, at the end of 2008. Three partners, including Joe Serkoch, came together before the dust cleared from layoffs in their corporate video production department. Their fourth partner, Lauren DeMichiei, joined the group as a web developer & graphic designer bringing along her expertise. Collectively, they formed Orionvega, and began producing commercials for clients who were still in need of video content for their cable advertising campaigns.

Organizing Workflow

All four of the partners lived in the same suburb of Pittsburgh, so operations were initially set-up between two households: a dining room turned main office and an edit suite at another location across town. Eventually internal communications and workflow during projects became challenging, so the group moved the edit suite to the main office location to simplify the production process.

Core Team

We are a tight-knit group of professionals that keep production lean and mean. We see the value in wearing many hats. However, when it comes to video production, the most creative and successful projects happen when each team member has a focused attention on the facet of production he is best at. We have experts that are masters in their particular skill-set and we have team members who excel in multiple and many fields. Depending on the scope or budget of your project, will determine the best approach to go with.

We have a national network of professional crew members and artists that we work with on any given project. This allows our key personnel to travel without sacrificing quality on any facet of the video production.

From coast to coast and start to finish, we’ve got you covered.
